Background Info

Problem Statement

Finding after-school care when you lead a busy life can be a daunting task. Finding after-school care if you have challenges in your life is even more difficult. The information is out there spread across the internet found on websites that are congested with information and these sites are not mobile friendly. These sites also only give you resources and are not a place where you can track progress and find last-minute care. Koala Connect solves this problem

Process...

· As this is a project for a course I used demo research for this project. However, I’ve been a small business owner for over five years. Up until I started working on this project, I was not aware of the options that were available to me for after-school care. I used my own experience along with experiences shared with me from friends and family to create relatable personas that then guided the project.

· Each persona influenced my decisions in the design process. (User flow, design flow, UI, styles. visuals with bubble explanations)

· Research was conducted using a ( ) study. Participants were asked to complete the task of choosing a provider and enrolling a child in after-school care.

· After the usability study I learned ( ). Based on user comments and recommendations the following iterations were conducted.

· For this project I used ( ) website to layout a color scheme. Chose Typography, utilized Googles Material Design for elements and components. Designed a divider in Figma

Outcome/ conclusion

· Conducted the second usability test and received feedback.

· The feedback I received from participants and non-participants was inspiring. My community could truly benefit from a product like this. I would really like to see this idea undergo more user studies to gain insight into the color scheme and other UI. Another step would be to connect with after-school programs to gain insight to interest in a product of this sort. Would after-school programs benefit from listing their services on an app?

· Based on the scope of this project the problem was solved. Parents and guardians can connect with after-school programs and find education on assistance to obtain care.

Reflection/ Summary

· Before starting this study, I did not have any experience with UX design or Figma. I learned how to find what users want through research, how to implement user needs, and how to test a product to be sure the user is getting a product that meets their needs. I learned how to create wireframes and prototypes in Figma, test those prototypes, then use the results of testing to iterate on designs and create mockups. I learned the basics, perhaps a little more, of Figma and how to incorporate accessibility so all users can benefit from my product.

· I am working to continue my understanding of Figma, creating design systems, and applying scalability to products.

· I discovered I enjoy designing products. I enjoy choosing colors and typography and find it a lot of fun to make interactive components that are scalable and responsive.
